Survival of the Hippest
Much Music held a contest called Survival Of The Hippest where you could win a trip for two to see Madonna in LA with the VJ who lasts the longest without getting "voted out". George ended up beating out everyone else at Much until it was down to just him and Rick. Unfortunately he lost (just barely) to Mr. Campanelli. There were challenges every week where the VJ's answered a question. All George's responses are below.

Week 1
Q: If you were to get stuck in an elevator with one dead rock star of your choosing, who would it be and what three questions would you ask them?
A: I'd like to ask Bob Marley some questions...
1. You helped black music and the struggle crossover to white America. Do you feel like your successors have let the cause down?
2. What event was the final inspiration that made you write "Redemption Song"?
3. (Depending on how long we are stuck) Are you carrying?

Week 2
Q: If you were the manager of Britney Spears, what one song would you recommend/insist that she cover on her next album? And why?
A: I think Britney Spears should cover "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC. I wanna hear her belt out that line about paying dues in a rock n' roll band/on my way to the promised land.

Week 3
Q: What is your favorite song lyric and why?
A: This wrinkle in time
I can't give it no credit
I thought about my space
And it really got me down (got me down)
Got me so down, I got me a headache
My heart is crammed in my cranium
And it still knows how to pound
-Frank Black, "Headache" from the album Teenager of the Year

Week 4
Q: What do you feel is the greatest moment in Rock N' Roll History?
A:
When producer Rick Rubin says to Adam, Adam and Mike, “trust me, we’ll sample Led Zeppellin and it’ll be huge." Rock n' Roll is saved, Hip Hop gets the push it needs, Zeppelin remain the greatest and the Beastie Boys are born.

Week 5
Q: What is your favorite music video of all time?
A: This one is easy - the Beastie Boys "Sabotage"

Week 6
Q: When my career as a VJ is over I want to be remembered as...
A: When my career as a VJ is over I want to be remembered as not really a VJ!

George's CD Picks
George reguarly posts his CD picks on the LOUD website with comments on each. I thought I'd post his opinions below for those of you shopping for some music...

Black Flag :: Damaged
•A classic

Cannibal Corpse :: Gore Obsessed
•Sweet and fuckin mean!

Clutch :: Pure Rock Fury
•This band consistently delivers

Grade :: Headfirst Straight To Hell
•Killer hardcore album

The Misfits :: Box Set
•Four discs including the almost impossible to find first record. "Bullet" and "Where Eagles Dare" are highlights. Danzig's gloomy punk still sounds fresh. "Texas is the reason the President's dead!"

Nine Inch Nails :: All That Could Have Been
•Was listening to this getting ready for my interview with Trent and have kept it in the disc player. NIN's live show is nearly unbeatable

Pantera :: Reinventing The Steel
•Still a fine rock record... can't wait for new stuff!

Pantera :: Vulgar Display Of Power
•Monumental metal album
•A work of art
•Just watched the Exorcist again and when the possessed Regan spits out the line, it sparked me to put the disc that was inspired by it. "By Demons" and "Fucking Hostile"!!!!!

Pro-Pain :: Shreds Of Dignity
•Good solid hardcore album -track 3, "Down For The Cause" is a killer song

Joey Ramone :: Don't Worry About Me
•It's just nice to hear his voice on new music again

Sex Pistols :: Never Mind The Bullocks
•Most bands are boring examples of marketing hype and bullshit. I wanted to escape that pool and listen to a legitimate band that infected a generation in such a meaningful way

Slaves On Dope :: Inches From the Mainline
•An awesome assault

Slayer :: South Of Heaven
•Still as good as ever

Slipknot :: Iowa
•What can I say, it's pure Slipknot

System of a Down :: Toxicity
•This is perfect, fucking perfect
•This is unbelievable, I can't get enough of it
•Seriously, this is fucking great!!! I haven't heard anything better
•I know, I know, it's still here. I can't believe how freaking good it is. It'll probably be on my list for the rest of my life - unless you write a better one ;-)

The End :: Transfer Trachea Reverberations From Point/False
•It rocks - enough said

Tool :: Lateralus
• Brilliant

As an aside - if you want to see a music documentary that will reaffirm your faith in nasty attitudes and true rebellion, go rent The Filth And The Fury. It's a doc about the Sex Pistols. Even if you don't dig their music, watch the flick... you'll really appreciate the fight. Imagine a band that wanted to open our eyes and had no interest in our money. The Sid Vicious stuff is killer!
Word For Word
This was found in early October 2001 on Much Music's site. It's a "Word For Word" on what some of Much's VJ's were reading at the time. George's book recomendations are below...

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
Dave Eggers
• He founded the best and funniest mag I have ever read (Might), and tried to change the way information is analyzed and presented.

Jihad vs. McWorld: How Globalism and Tribalism Are Reshaping the World
Benjamin R. Barber
• Alarming and extensive insight in to the scope of this seemingly unavoidable conflict. Tribalism and Globalism.

Seperated at Birth?
King George...
Can you see the resemblance between George and a young Elvis?

Hey,
It's been a great year for hard music and it seems to be getting better. System Of A Down and Slayer killed with some of the best metal I've heard in years. The Punk/Hardcore scene was awesome with bands like Propagandhi, Fugazi, Lars, and Jersey's new stuff. I hope that everyone gets Much Loud for Christmas (if you don't celebrate Christmas, I hope you get it for December 25th :-)... The hope for the new year is that we can finally convince them to give us a punk show which will allow us to give metal its proper focus and punk its rightful show. Thank you's and may Ozzy bless Adam at Sanctuary, Rose at Universal, Greg at Distort, Matt Mernaugh, Noel at Inertia and Vanessa at Interactive. We'd like to send a special thank you to Wook from theprp.com. He continues to be the place to go for all things metal.

Go With The Flow
On Thursday, January 17 2002, Go With The Flow did an episode featuring different web sites of Much Music VJ's. This site was picked as the featured George site. Below is the transcript.

Amanda: Hey you're back with Go with the Flow and the investigation into VJ fan sites continues - right now on to George's site.
Kelly: That's right George's fan site - it's subtitled Teenage Angst Has Paid Off Well. And because George is a teenager it makes sense. One of the really cool things on the site - now there's a lot of pictures up there (clicking on different pictures proceeds throughout this bit) but one of the coolest things about this site is the poll.
Amanda: Yeah I really enjoy this poll. The question is "Where can you see George going from Much Music?" and your choices are 'Politician, TV News Anchor, Rock Star, Movie Star' or the one that has 55 percent of all votes, 'Away from the media married with kids'.
Kelly: Now, knowing George as we do that is probably the most likely thing - he's going to be married, with kids (laughing in background) 55 percent of you think, 11 percent thought politician, 14 thought anchor, 13 rock star, and 8 thought movie star, but yeah definitely married with kids.
Amanda: Definitely. Definitely.
Kelly: So NOT married with kids.
Amanda: No, so not, so not. I'm just repeating everything Kelly says, it's Go with the Flow, the puppets. Okay we're going to head back over to the chat, lots of fun people on there tonight, and right now you guys can watch some Incubus on Go with the Flow....

Here's a Christmas greeting from George. I found it in December of 2004 but I'm not sure when it
was created. George is a Santa Tracker for Norad. It's about a minute long. Click George's head to
play it.
